UAP Badminton Tournament for the Restoration of CP Garcia's Park

The United Architects of the Philippines Quezon City Chapter invited different UAP Chapters and some guests to its 7th Invitational Badminton Tournament last February at Centro Athletico Cubao, Quezon City

 

Some 100 players participated in a competitive yet friendly game and proceeds from the event were given to help fund the restoration of C.P. Garcia’s Park located at CP Garcia Ave. Quezon City, as a part of UAP’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Part of the tournament fee was also used to provide a badminton tournament shirt, a body bag and meals. CW Home Depot’s Managing Director Ferdinand Co, an avid badminton player himself, was one of the players under level B1 teamed up with Arch. Andres “Bing” Castillo, one of CW Home Depot’s loyal customers.

 

This year, the chapter was able to have more sponsors to include – Boysen Paints, CW Home Depot in partnership of Babolat Philippines, Moldex, Steeltech, Microtech Trade house, Philfex, Metro Shutter and Metro Door, Sika, Kawara, Decoboard, Bostik, Emerald, Crown Pipes, Eurotiles, Gyproc, Spurway Enterprises, Neltex, Biowood and Unitec. These are brands that have been consistently supporting this tournament throughout the years.c

 

Winners of the event were: Arch. Richard Tan and Arch. Boyet Hernandez (LevelA1), Arch. Chito Ranay and Mr. Rainier Paywan (LevelA2), Arch. Bec Zarate and Arch. Gift Similing (LevelA3), Arch. Rairai Gonzales and Arch. Matthew Tan (LevelB1), Arch. Albert Del Rosario and Mr. Ace Olano(LevelB2), Arch. Dennis Dy and Ms.Lyn Chua (LevelB3), Arch. Ralph Faronilo and Ms. Dang Basilan (LevelC1) and Arch .Joy Burgos and Mr.Alvin Pabuayon (LevelC2). Winners and runner ups received cash prizes, trophies and gift certificates from CW Home Depot. Babol at Philippines also raffled off a variety of badminton products including sports bags, rackets, racket strings and shuttlecocks. The tournament started since 2008 and was spear-headed by Arch. Richard Garcia, a former UAP QC chapter president, and still continues as a successful annual tournament as a part of their service to the community and encourage health and fitness consciousness among its members.

 

According to the UAP Code of Ethical Conduct, “The Architect shall seek opportunities to be of constructive service in civic and urban affairs and to the best of his ability advance the safety, health and well-being of the people and the community as well as the promotion, restoration or preservation of the general amenities and other examples of historic and architectural heritage of the nation.”
